Once again, we made our way to Oxford for MITP 2003. This year was special
in that it was the first outing for our recently completed mini van. We also
took down the S-Works and Mini 40, and a Mini Cabriolet that our body man,
Chippy, and his wife were using.
Once again the weather was fine, and the turn out really good. However,
there seemed to be fewer attractions, with no star guest and no rally
car. However, the trade stands were numerous, and the club stands
busy. And there was a great display of mini magazine star vehicles
and competition minis.
Amongst these vehicles was Tom Kidd's, who's mini we had recently
done all the body work on, and had resprayed in the wonderful metallic
purple colour.
Once again, Mr and Mrs. Vidler entered their Riley Elf into the concourse
competition. Again, the competition was very tough, and they just missed out
on a prize.
Weeks before, it had been on the Mad Mini's Lakes Run, where on
the way back it had been run into by a new Fiat. Needless to say, the Riley
was repairable, and the Fiat a write-off. So the few weeks before the show
had been quite hectic trying to get Mr. Vidler's Elf repaired and ready.
As a surprise, we also arranged a buffet for the guys at the Border City
Mini Club stand, where we invited various friends, customers and fellow
club members. It was a great spread, but saddened by the fact that Anne,
George and Chippy had gone down with food poisoning the day before. So
the vast numbers of scones with cream and jam were never eaten by the
intended!
As a tribute, we all got together and posed for a special message for
those in bed and feeling very ill.
Lets hope next year is less troublesome, and more exciting with some
special displays and spectacles, even though much entertainment was
provided by the enthusiasm and dedication of the mini owners!
