From a casual "need a mini run up North" comment
on Minifinity web site to a major run from Liverpool and Leeds via Preston to
Blackpool, Tom and Keith should be congratulated on organising a massively
successful event, which raised over £1000 for the Breakthrough
Breast Cancer charity fund.
Cars from Leeds and Liverpool met up at Preston
football club carpark to continue on the final leg to Blackpool. No-one
expected such a huge turnout, and the carpark turned into a mass of colours
as the mini fans congregated. In fact, there were more cars there than on
a Saturday home game (and probably more fans too; we're Sheffield United
supporters!).
Our Mini 40 and S-Works made an appearance, as
did Tom's Tahiti Blue. There were many others there, some of whom were
minimaster customers. Eventually, everyone broke from their excited
conversations, and set off for Blackpool down the promenade.
Once at the north-end car park, people just relaxed
and enjoyed the sunshine and banter, with occasional interruptions from
people with collection boxes. Almost everyone gave more than their entry
fee (all of which went to the charity collection), and many asked to be
notified of the next one [which we hope to be sponsoring].
As the sun began to set, everyone made their way
home. For us, we went via a pub to celebrate the success with Tom and Sam
Kidd and their family. Entertainment was provided by George and Matt, who
took on a bet to finish a mega mars bar ice-cream sundae. Amazingly they won,
and monies raised went towards the charity collection: however, they still
can't look at a Mars bar.
Once again, thanks to Minifinity, and well done to
Tom and Keith for organising the event. Congratulations also to all those who
attended and took part: the standard of turnout of the minis was exceptional.
See you at the 2005 run!
